Kyle wasn't on the clock - and even if he was, he wouldn't be working near the campus. He was getting himself familiarized with the campus, secondary phone out - though he does try his best to blend in, it's clear he isn't someone that comes here on a regular basis. Now that's where that group meet - and if he got the time right, he can do something to give the thieves a leg up.

But until then, he busies himself, politely taking or rejecting the numerous fliers being handed out and dodging petitions, stopping by the campus book shelves... and pitying the students who had to pay those prices for the books.

[Locke hasn't been idle. With everyone getting ready to move against the racist scumbag, Locke needed to get in shape, and that means training! So, he's been hitting up Mementos with reasonable frequency, fighting Shadows and testing the capabilities of his Persona, not going too deep of course but enough to get a good workout.

As such, he's also been hanging out at the Safehouse a lot, it's a good place to find people to delve into Mementos, and there's safety in numbers after all.

If you're interested, he's always welcome to bring you along. Or maybe you just ran into him in the Safehouse and wanted to strike up a conversation. Or perhaps you were on your way to or in Mementos yourself and ran into him. Plenty of possibilities. He's been entering under the onramp to I-5 in Burbank but he's usually pretty careful about not being seen and slipping in quickly.]

Things were starting to get out of hand. Shinji wasn't necessarily super famous in the greater community, but it was generally known that he ran a staffing agency that employed a number of minorities mostly for work in commercials, which were becoming increasingly diverse. So, it was likely only inevitable that ugly blood-red graffiti was found telling the residents in no uncertain terms that they should go home. And thus, as he was washing the house, by hand, he might make a few somewhat unsubtle comments to those using the house.

"So, you guys are gonna do something about that right?"

And so it was that the first major war council was convened at the Safe House. All active Phantom Thieves were called to the meeting (and potential thieves who might be trailing them looking for answers? Well, Shinji was pretty well connected, he might let them stay but make no mistake he knows you're there, in those bushes, yes you he can see you you know). The topic - Todd Woodrow Jr., his palace, and the plan.

[This is the official sign-up post for the February Palace Infiltration. Post here if you mean to join in the infiltration mission. If you are planning to app during the February App Cycle, it is possible you may be able to join the logs later, there will be a section to sign up and indicate your interest and we will keep it in mind when crafting the logs.

When signing up, you will be divided into groups of 4 when the log begins. Some logs will be run by moderators, but a majority, depending on the sign-up groups, will be given descriptions with which to be logged on their own, either to one person if someone volunteers to run it themselves or to the group collectively who can then proceed to log it out as they wish. Players who do choose to run logs will gain additional Notoriety in February. Priority for moderator run logs (which will generally encompass the Shadow Fight) will go to players who have not participated in a Shadow Fight recently, which in this case would be no players. Please indicate if you are interested in being part of the final Shadow fight, the team that is part of it will be chosen randomly based on those interested in taking part. There is an OOC question thread if you have questions about how the event will run or what will be going on with it. The logs will open February 1st at 12:00 AM EST]

[It wasn't long for Cyan to see the news report about the rally and chaos that it made. Even seeing that Todd guy is enough to tick him off.

He would try joining the other Thieves for a recon in his Palace, but he is not in a mood to do so. In fact, all he needs right now is a way to vent out his anger and with the chaos being reported around him, he knew he doesn't want to do it in here.]

On the appointed day, Terra wakes up bright and early, preps her supplies, and heads over to UCLA for the recon job. Taking a moment to tap out a message and posting it to the BBS, she activates the Metaverse Navigator and slips into Woodrow's Palace.

Inside, she takes a moment to stare at the passing parade of tanks and the dizzying display of unrestrained racism before taking up a position near the entrance, out of range of the tanks, and waiting for the other Thieves to show up.

[Mato may have Phantom Thief business coming up soon, but she's still got her other responsibilities in the meantime. Middle school students are busy, okay? So tonight, she's out with the girls' basketball team trying to help them qualify for the finals. She wears lucky number 13, which might be an omen for the way the night is going to go. The team does well enough in the first half, holding a slim lead over the visiting team, but it's after halftime that things start to look a little concerning.

Mato's been hustling pretty hard out there, and despite being the shortest member on the team, she's quick and accurate. Besides the other students sitting in the home section, there's also a small gathering of the faculty that have come out to cheer for the team. Phantom Thieves in attendance may or may not notice an extra attendee sitting with the other teachers near the beginning of the second half - a young, unassuming woman with a soft smile. She's watching Mato rather intently as she plays, and as she dribbles the ball down the court and past her field of vision, she lets out a loud cheer followed by the slightest sinister smile.

It's very easy to miss for someone who isn't watching for it, her cheer blending in with the rest of the crowd, but Mato turns her head for just a split second. And as soon as she sees that smile, her eyes go wide and she misses the dribble and trips over her own feet, taking a hard spill on the gym floor. It doesn't look like any bones are broken, but she's limping enough when she stands up that the coach calls for a substitution. Mato is helped to the bench by her fellow players, and while she waves it off with a smile, she's clearly looking a little disturbed as she ices and rests her ankle.

For anyone who missed it earlier, the same woman - only several rows back - leans forward to call down to her.]

What a shame, Mato. Come by tomorrow if you want to talk about it.

[Mato simply shrinks into herself even further, staring at the floor. She remains like that for most of the rest of the game, glancing up only occasionally to watch. Her team loses by a single point.

After the final whistle blows, she does her best to smile for her teammates as they tell her it wasn't her fault. The woman from earlier walks by and places a brief comforting hand on her shoulder, echoing the sentiment. Finally, her parents come down to check on her, but she tells them - again with the same smile - that she needs a minute, but she'll catch up.

If any of her fellow Phantom Thieves want to check on Mato as the crowd finishes filing out, now is probably the time.]

“This is Candace Sierra with Wolf News. I’m here today with Todd Woodrow Jr. where he is on UCLA campus with his club Fight for America. We have hundreds of students and supporters here today rallying for what they say is an America as it was supposed to be. Todd, what can you tell me about today’s rally?”

“Thanks Candace. I don’t really consider this a rally today, more of a grand parade to celebrate this country’s roots and order. This nation was built on the brilliance and ingenuity of white men, but today we’re being erased and pushed out of the national dialogue by pushes for ‘diversity’. College spaces are being given to undeserving people all over the country thanks to affirmative action and our talents and cultures are being erased. We’re here today to push back against the liberal PC narrative and celebrate our accomplishments.”

The camera pans out to show a large crowd of primarily young, college age men with upraised fists shouting and carrying signs about restoring white power, attacking diversity, and a bizarre, badly drawn cartoon frog. Many are holding lit torches as they march through campus, the air is angry and tense. Surrounding them are a number of counter-protesters, many in black masks and holding slogans about fighting nazis and not allowing hate. Lines of police separate the two, but the “parade” continues mostly without violence.

It is not until night falls that the true fallout is realized. Incidences of arson are reported all over Little Tokyo and the general Chinatown and K-Town area, along with racist graffiti and defacing of property. Witnesses on the ground report seeing some of the people from the rally, and multiple police reports are filed but as morning dawns and the damages are assessed, no arrests have yet been made. A smug Todd Woodrow Jr. is on TV again, denying any hand in the damages and once more laying blame square at the feet of the victims.

And throughout all of this, the ominous Metaverse Nav is glowing on your phone, awaiting the keywords to open the next Palace.

"It'll only take a short time, please stay a little longer."

That's what was told to Hana when she was ready to leave for California. Sure she didn't need to be there right away, but after new years, she was ready to go and get settled in at UCLA. Why her uncle decided to have her wait for a few more days was beyond her, but he was the one who suggested the role for her movie to her in the first place so she could probably trust his judgement. Never mind the fact that he said he'd take care of her flight down since it was because of him that she took longer than expected.

Either way, by the time she finally arrived, she was pretty tired. It had been 6 AM when she had left and she was up around 4 AM to make sure that she had the rest of her stuff packed and ready and now it was 1 PM in California. When she got on the plane, she was really hoping to take a nap, but the kid kicking her seat behind her said no to that notion. She didn't have too much on her at the time besides her purse and her coat. Once she arrived, it was a pleasant surprise to see that she really didn't need her coat right now, but kept it unzipped for now while she looked for uncle who was supposed to be waiting for her.

She went to claim her luggage and it wasn't long after that she found her Uncle and he had dropped her off at her apartment near the school. She could have gotten a dorm probably, but it was just easier this way, especially since her job was nice enough to offer to pay for her living expenses due to coming all of the way to America for the movie. Once she'd settled in -- her uncle was nice enough to let her be for the time being -- she decided that she should really just try to find her way around, since she wanted to get the hang of where she would be living her her surroundings.

So still tired, and probably feeling the jet lag, she was moving a bit more slowly than intended. It was probably better to just nap, but it was only 1 PM here. That seemed like such a waste. So there Hana was trying to get used to her surroundings and maybe meet some new people.

"Man, I didn't think that would take that much energy out of me," she thought out loud, sighing as she used her hand to cover the light over her eyes to look around. Hopefully she'd adjust to moving here soon.

Ky was thankful he had the day off on New years day, and the day after - it made up for having to work through Christmas, but the LAPD is always on the clock. The man checks his phone - then the burner phone he used to contact his 'associates', the weight of the small budget phone felt especially heavy in his hand, the excuse he rehearsed in his head if one of his coworkers find it was already on repeat in his head as he types into the phone:

Routine check in. Getting info on whose in charge of search for UCLA Perps, see how serious they will be in hunt. Will update with more info.

He pockets the phone, breathing out as he ducks into the cafe near the UCLA campus, the thieves seem to be trying to do the right thing, but he's still not entirely sure if he's doing the right thing as he flashes his ID to the bartender, ordering an espresso he's using to warm his hands. While he's off duty, he's still keeping an eye out of trouble out of habit.

On the West Coast, it's not quite New Year yet, but Locke is hanging out at the Safe House with a few packs of Kirin Beer and hanging out. It's not the biggest deal for him, but it's kind of fun to watch the fireworks go off and this way he doesn't have to dodge drunks who might run him over or worse, compel him to punch the shit out of them. Right now he's pretty much drinking and watching football. If anyone asks, he's totally old enough and Shinji clearly doesn't give a shit.

“A joyous New Year’s Eve erupted into violence last night leaving two UCLA students in serious condition. Gyeong-Hui Kim and Ji Han were rushed to the hospital after an altercation with a group of revelers. Local witnesses described a group of other UCLA students became belligerent when Kim and Han entered the bar, saying they did not belong in the country and were taking education meant for real Americans. The confrontation escalated and the two young men were attacked before the fight could be broken up.”

“Several witnesses have claimed the men to be members of the UCLA Alt-Right organization Fight for America. The suspects are still at large, police are searching for between six and ten young white males between ages 18 and 20. Witnesses say they were wearing UCLA jerseys and hoodies, and were described as ‘extremely intoxicated.’”

“We go now to Candace who is with the club president of Fight for America Todd Woodrow Jr., who says his members are not to blame. Candace?”

“Thanks Courtney. This is Candace Sierra with Wolf News. I’m here with Todd Woodrow Jr., the president of Fight for America, who claims that his members have nothing to do with this incident. Todd, what’s going on here?”

“Hello Candace. That’s right, this is a complete false flag. It sounds like some local students just got into a fight and as always they want to bring race into it. Fight for America is a non-violent community-oriented group dedicated to advancing the cause of real Americans who’ve been left behind by society. We advocate for community service and outreach, I assure you none of our members would have done such a thing.”

“I understand that Mr. Woodrow, but this isn’t the first time these accusations have been leveled against your club. How do you respond to claims that your members have been attacking minority students?”

“I want to remind you that none of our students have ever been arrested for these violent actions. Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured students, this was truly a horrible act, but have you considered that perhaps they were the instigators in this situation? It seems like whenever these things come up, people always blame us and our group but what about these guys? Don’t they have some of the blame for starting fights? Anyway, nothing has been proven so I think we should just let the investigation run its course.”

“Thank you Todd, this is Candace with Wolf News. Back to you, Courtney.”
