"It'll only take a short time, please stay a little longer."

That's what was told to Hana when she was ready to leave for California. Sure she didn't need to be there right away, but after new years, she was ready to go and get settled in at UCLA. Why her uncle decided to have her wait for a few more days was beyond her, but he was the one who suggested the role for her movie to her in the first place so she could probably trust his judgement. Never mind the fact that he said he'd take care of her flight down since it was because of him that she took longer than expected.

Either way, by the time she finally arrived, she was pretty tired. It had been 6 AM when she had left and she was up around 4 AM to make sure that she had the rest of her stuff packed and ready and now it was 1 PM in California. When she got on the plane, she was really hoping to take a nap, but the kid kicking her seat behind her said no to that notion. She didn't have too much on her at the time besides her purse and her coat. Once she arrived, it was a pleasant surprise to see that she really didn't need her coat right now, but kept it unzipped for now while she looked for uncle who was supposed to be waiting for her.

She went to claim her luggage and it wasn't long after that she found her Uncle and he had dropped her off at her apartment near the school. She could have gotten a dorm probably, but it was just easier this way, especially since her job was nice enough to offer to pay for her living expenses due to coming all of the way to America for the movie. Once she'd settled in -- her uncle was nice enough to let her be for the time being -- she decided that she should really just try to find her way around, since she wanted to get the hang of where she would be living her her surroundings.

So still tired, and probably feeling the jet lag, she was moving a bit more slowly than intended. It was probably better to just nap, but it was only 1 PM here. That seemed like such a waste. So there Hana was trying to get used to her surroundings and maybe meet some new people.

"Man, I didn't think that would take that much energy out of me," she thought out loud, sighing as she used her hand to cover the light over her eyes to look around. Hopefully she'd adjust to moving here soon.

She spent some of her time checking out around her apartment complex, but most of Hana's time was spent on campas. She was trying to figure out where her classes would take place on campus to have a good idea of where she needed to go before it was time to. Luckily, most of her classes were in one building, so it didn't take too long to find her way. Right now she was just exploring campus a bit more.

It didn't take long for her to notice the loud group and turn her attention to them. They didn't seem like bad people at the very least. What was it that they were passing out? Well, there wasn't any harm to checking it out, was there?

"Hey there," Locke calls out, seeing a potentially interested ~~victim~~ target. "Are you a student?"

Glancing to the person who called out to her, "Ah, yeah. I just transferred here." She paused for a moment before glancing around again, "So what's this about here?"

"I'm glad you asked! We're protesting the fact that citizens, especially minorities, are consistently imprisoned and heavily fined for minor drug offenses by the LAPD. It's a big problem here."

He definitely notices the reference to transfer and proceeds a bit cautiously. Exchange student? Out of state?

That's a word she should have used, but she's sure it'll become clear soon enough.

"Huh, I guess it depends on what the drug offense is," she said, not particularly taking any side. She's Switzerland at the moment as far as where she stands. "I'm from Korea, so it's a bit of a trip," she clarified.

"Welcome to America! It's a bit of a complicated issue, you see a lot of arrests for marijuana which is illegal according to the Federal government but legal according to the state government, in some respects. A lot of minorities, especially black and Hispanic, are more likely to be arrested and put in prison, whereas white citizens might get fined if they even get punished at all."

Locke is a bit cautious with all that, if she's from Korea there's no telling how much she knows about America, or it's rather unique issues, or their stance on drugs in general. Or, you know, if she even cares.

"Thank you," Hana said with a simple nod before listening to his explanation quietly. "So basically, some of the minorities are being singled out more when it's legal in the state, but not the government otherwise?" She's not even sure if she picked that up perfectly, but she's just assuming that's what he means.

Hana wasn't particularly interested in drugs or marijuana, but if people were wrongfully arrested, that was obviously an issue. She can see why he'd be protesting about it if that was the case. She knew a little about America, but she tended to focus more on her own country's problems first, so she didn't know much.

"More or less. We're protesting for social justice, we want everyone to be treated fairly under the law."

"That's fair enough. I don't know much about the problems going on here, but if there's anything I can do, let me know. I'll try to do what I can," Hana said with a nod. She probably shouldn't jump into this so openly, but hey, it seemed like a reasonable subject to protest about. And honestly, making new friends (hopefully) was a priority for her when she didn't really know anyone here.

"Hey, I appreciate it. Even being engaged and supportive is great! Are you living on campus? We do regular events, you're always welcome to attend."

"Ah, no I'm living off of campus, but I live nearby," Hana explained, "But I don't mind stopping by occasionally if I can help."
