[ open log ]
WHO: All current members of the Phantom Thieves, and any other parties (infiltrators, those who haven't rebelled yet) who may be in the area.
WHEN: Backdated to May 25 - 28.
WHERE: About 30 miles south of LA.
WHAT: Celeste has issued an open invitation to all current members to get away for a weekend, for training and to try to decompress.
WARNINGS: None yet, will update if/when applicable.
After assembling that Friday afternoon into the various vehicles, the group is directed to a rather large property on a man-made lake. She explains, as she gives the tour, that it belongs to her uncle, and that they have been permitted to use it for the long weekend. When asked how she managed this arrangement, however, she will politely gloss over that fact and redirect the group to yet another thing to look at. It's fine, that isn't important.
The only thing Celeste has scheduled is a meeting that night they arrive, set to begin after everyone has unpacked. While she keeps the agenda under wraps, it likely doesn't take a genius to figure out the topic of discussion—especially if they were in attendance during their previous meeting. Other than that, there are few rules and expectations; only that the girls have one wing upstairs, and the boys the other. Oh, and don't mess up the place, or she'll have to kick your ass. Probably shouldn't question whether she's being serious with that threat or not.
As for what to do for the rest of the weekend, that is for them to decide. There are miles of beach to explore, and while the waves aren't well-suited for surfing, they are great for swimming, if you don't mind cold water. But what would a beach be without touristy shops? And an arcade?! Sweet!
There's also the Queen Mary, an old-style ocean liner said to be haunted. But there's no validity to those claims, is there? Maybe an expedition is in order, if you're brave enough.
Finally, if you want to see some exotic flora and fauna, and have some spare clams sitting in your wallet, the Aquarium of the Pacific might be up your alley. You can pet a shark! Just mind your fingers, if you're keen on keeping them.
Want to be more of a homebody? That's fine, as there is plenty of space to roam, including a small, backyard, leading into a small private beach area, with a brick fire pit.
The weekend is theirs to spend as they see fit. However, come Monday afternoon, it's time to pack up and head back, hopefully with a clearer head, a game plan, and not too much sand in their cars.
[ OOC: Please use this post as a general open post for both IC discussion of the current plot, as well as for general social link building + antics. I may not be tagging everyone back, but I will do my best. ]

The War Room, Part II
On the plus side, she looks a little less dour than she has in recent weeks, and it's certainly a far cry from the no-nonsense stern authoritarian approach she had for the last meeting. Maybe she's learning how to be less intense. ]
I didn't expect everyone to make it out. I'm impressed. Let's get down to business.
[ Or not. ]

At least some of us managed to have some free time to accept your invitation.
And if you mind, I would like to start. Did you hear the news about 76 Eagles?
no subject
Frankly I'm surprised it took them this long.

That's been a freaky few weeks.
no subject
I assume that you've been keeping up with recent events, then. How have you been holding up?
[ They've hammered home what happened with the pastor and his wife. She will revisit it if she has to, but Celeste knows it's still raw. Best to keep moving forward. ]

[He takes a bite, swallowing]
So those guys are probably our target, now the trick is getting close without getting shot.
no subject
We also have The Inquisition to consider... They might be planning their own assault as well. We need to be careful if we are against two groups at the same time.
Arcade Fun
Sorry to bother you, but I hope you don't mind playing a few games with me!
I don't want to make this trip a waste.

[Joey's not used to getting accosted by other random kids to play video games. Normally, it's the other way around. And by normally we mean when Joey was 12 and not too perpetually embarrassed to actually do that.]
Okay, sure? I've got like six pounds of tokens I was gonna need to find a way to spend anyway. What were you looking to play?
no subject
Are you good at fighting games?

[He tosses his token as he smiled at the young woman.]
no subject
[She brandishes her own token, grinning competitively because that's slightly less likely to annoy this guy into wandering off than getting offended. She hopes.]
no subject
[He is starting to like her already. In fact, it is enough for him to head off to a nearby arcade cabinet and insert the token in the slot. He then picks out his character while waiting for her to join in.]
no subject
Ready?
no subject
Oh, I am always will be.
[As the game starts, Cyan attempts to go on defensive first to hopefully read his opponent's moves. To her, it seems that his moves are predictable. However, for him, he has to leave to luck to decide right now. That way, he will know what she is going to do in the next round.]

You're good. What's your name?
no subject
Joey. Joey Claire. Yours?
[...if there's something fishy, she'll find out in round 2.]

Arcade
While not much of a swimmer, and in fact usually unparted from her humble t-shirt and skirt ensemble, Joey can definitely be found at the Arcade, lamenting the lack of non-shooting games and wondering how to fit her name onto the high score list of the dancing games. "Jo...e? y? Those are totally different names."
She might just fill the whole scoreboard with random letters. She hasn't got much better to do.
Aquarium
Joey is also enough of a nerd to go to the Aquarium even without any adults bugging her to do something educational. Fish are animals, and therefore friends. Even the freaky ones like cuttlefish. Yeah. Let's. Not mess with the cuttlefish and go pet manta rays instead. Oh, and the shorebirds. She should definitely get some pictures with those guys. And hey, there's otters in the Northern Pacific gallery...
If anyone ever wanted to see a 14 year old girl running around like an excited puppy looking at sea animals and bothering attendants about internship programs, now is your chance.
Beach
Of course, no one spends her entire vacation staying indoors. Well okay plenty of people that she's related to do, but Joey doesn't. She can, in fact, be found on the beach, just not really swimming in public. She's more likely to be asleep with a book on her face, or actively reading some fantasy manga or the other. If nothing else, surely, here, nothing is going to disturb her attempts to relax...
Beach
[Locke prods the sleeping bookworm]
You're gonna get a hell of a burn that way.
no subject
What? Oh, shoot. Sor--I mean, thanks.
[She looks at herself. Only her arms and legs are really uncovered, but.]
I don't think I was out long enough to hurt anything...
[She looks up at the random guy who rescued her from her own stupidity.]
Right. Thanks. Er. Yeah, we definitely haven't met. I'm Joey.

[She looks around at where she is.]
Speaking of, are you with that big group at the Winters place? I've come out here a few times but never actually...seen anyone there before.
OTA.
And that is to go out together, to the beach, for some old-fashioned bonding.
Thankfully, it's only a ten minute walk away. Hopefully you brought your swimsuit, or at least something to enjoy the waves and the sand in, because Celeste at least is dressed for the occasion. So bring your beach towels, some manner of beach ball and some sunscreen, because she will insist on being there most of the day.
While she isn't up for swimming (it's a little too cold for her), she will take up anyone who wants to play a game of volleyball, or get her feet wet by the shore. ]
Closed to Locke, later that night.
no subject
[Locke is sitting on the couch, idly flipping at his phone with his finger]
no subject
I could say the same to you.
no subject
Eh, this is just normal for me. I don't sleep much.
no subject
I was thinking about taking a walk.
[ She pauses. ]
...Would you like to join me?
no subject
[He gets to his feet and checks his pockets for keys, wallet and the like]
Think I'm ready. Shall we?
no subject
[Clad in swimming trunks and a loose t-shirt, Locke was ambling down the beach holding a frozen treat. He was more or less wandering aimlessly and enjoying the weather as it was starting to turn nice again. If he recognizes anyone, he'll stop and shoot the breeze]
Aquarium
[Being out of town, it's nice to check some of the local attractions and an aquarium is pretty inoffensive. Locke is taking a quick turn through the area, admiring the sights and generally just enjoying himself. As with the beach, he'll stop to shoot the breeze with familiar faces, while he's flying solo he's always up for some company]
Private Beach
[Long after most folks are in bed, Locke, ever the restless sleeper, will be up and sitting by the fire pit, watching the dying embers with a wistful expression]
Aquairum
Decided to look at the fish too?
no subject
Yeah, figure while I'm here I should do something a bit different.
no subject
[He peers at them again, hands at the edge so he's not actually touching the glass]
So what's your favorite exhibit here so far?
