New Year Party at the Safehouse

On the West Coast, it's not quite New Year yet, but Locke is hanging out at the Safe House with a few packs of Kirin Beer and hanging out. It's not the biggest deal for him, but it's kind of fun to watch the fireworks go off and this way he doesn't have to dodge drunks who might run him over or worse, compel him to punch the shit out of them. Right now he's pretty much drinking and watching football. If anyone asks, he's totally old enough and Shinji clearly doesn't give a shit.

Locke chuckles.

"Hey now, I'm totally celebrating. Gonna watch the fireworks and everything."

Augustine just rolls his eyes, knowing that Locke has his own way to do something. Still, he decided to change the subject as he sighs at his carelessness.

"Well, have you seen the news lately?"

Locke sighs a bit. "I'm trying to avoid that shit today."

Augustine sighs as well. He wanted to avoid the news due to being the day to celebrate the New Year, but he just wanted to know the current events.

"I wish I can avoid them as well. But considering what is happening right now, I can't ignore any sign of corruption."

"Yeah, but it can also wait until tomorrow. One day's not gonna make that big a difference."

"True. But as an Operator, I can't ignore any kind of corruption around the city."

He sighs at this as he takes a seat next to Locke. "Though now that I said this, I felt that I'm being too paranoid for my own good."

Locke shrugs. "Maybe a bit paranoid, but probably not too much. The world will still be just as shitty in the morning, it's good to take a break every once in awhile."

"Good point. Besides, you can't enjoy this last day of the year just by worrying. Although, you should try to celebrate it just like everyone else."

"I got my drink, I got my chips, I got the TV, I'm doin' good."

Augustine sighs once more. Comparing to him and Locke, he doesn't care about how he wants to try and celebrate the holidays.

"Well, what about your studies once winter break ends?"

"Good enough, thanks teach."

Locke is polite-ish! He doesn't roll his eyes!

"What about your history studies then? I do specifically remember about your grades with it."

"Yeahhhhh I'm gonna level with you, that was a Gen Ed for me so I'm happy with passing."

This time, Augustine smiled at his achievement, considering he was the one who graded it.

"I'm aware of it. And if I heard it right, you are majoring in Political Science, correct?"

"That's the plan, anyway. We'll see how that goes."

At least he was motivated enough when it comes to his studies. If only he would try to have an energy to celebrate.

"Still, I was surprised that you're interested on taking a job for the government someday."

"For or against? Two very different things that require the same skillset."

"Well, I can't say which one. But I guessed you were aiming for the latter, correct?"

Again, it makes sense. Besides, if he didn't manage to have the Metaverse app right now, he wouldn't able to join the Phantom Thieves' cause to change the hearts of the corrupted.

"Something like that. I figure everything here is on-the-job training."

"Well, I wouldn't say that stealing hearts is part of your training. Though, I do commend you for your contribution and your studious attention. I hope you may able to find an occupation that will help you change the system."

"That's the idea. Gotta believe that the system can be changed."

While their actions as Phantom Thieves are controversial, he had to admit that they are changing the world one step at the time. And he hoped that Locke might able to change the system inside to make sure their voices are to be heard.

"We might find out in due time. Until then, I should get to my parents. I can't celebrate the New Years without my family."

"My family doesn't 100% approve of the stuff I get up to, best to keep my distance."

"Whatever the case, I hope you have a good New Year, Locke."

"You too, teach."
